Hey Mom and Dad,
Happy 4th of July!! Haha I´m glad it sounds like you´ve had an amazing weekend. Those are definitely times I miss when all the extended family gets together just to see each other again. Do we usually have those every 4 years then? But that must´ve been especially neat with the baptism of Spencer. That´s kool how he was baptized and confirmed all in the same service, lol. For some reason now that sounds strange to me because for converts they have to be confirmed in Sacrament meeting so you have to plan it out for two different events. And that´s neat you had dutch oven cooking. That sounds great, lol. And that´s crazy a demolition derby, lol. That would be funny to see. I´m not gonna lie I´ve seen some cars here in Ecuador that look like they´d go good in one :P
Well here it was funny early in the week I remember thinking about the 4th of July coming up but then on Sunday with all the meetings and things I totally forgot until afterwards when one of our investigators came up to me and said “Congratulations Elder Frome.” I was like, “congratulations? For what?” then he told me because it was the 4th of July! Then I felt silly because I had to be reminded by an Ecuatoriano about the independence day of my own country, lol. But it was kool because then throughout the course of church different people wished me a happy 4th of July as well, which was kool to see how the independence of the US is known even in other parts of the world. And yeah today one recent convert has her birthday today so she invited us to have a family home evening\birthday party at her house and she´s invited several friends from the ward. So it was funny the same investigator that wished me happy 4th of July suggested that we celebrate it today at the family home evening :P so yeah now I wish I just had some mini USA flags or something, lol.
But anyways, other than that we´ve had another good week. Nothing too exciting. We´ve been doing a lot more street contacts lately. The mission has a standard goal of 20 contacts per day (which is honestly more challenging than it sounds, if we get more than 10 I feel good:). The nice thing about Ecuador is that if you walk down any given street there are always people outside either just relaxing on their porch or walking around. So when we see people and have an extra minute we´ll just walk up to greet them and make a contact. That´s been pretty fun, lol. It always impresses me when I see so many people in the street that I´ve never met nor seen before just how great must be the love of the Lord for his children. There´s so many people that we pass by every day that we don´t even know, yet the Lord knows each and every one by name. He knows their stories and understands their challenges and fears. Preach my Gospel says the Lord will put those ready for the gospel in our paths but often we won´t know who they are. It seems to me the only way to recognize them is to talk. After talking to 10 people that don´t wanna know listen we´ll be able to recognize one that does want to learn. It´s a slower process but still has good turnouts.
Other than that there was a ward baptism which I would usually not think too much about but the Bishop asked us the night before to help with it, lol. So we helped out with the baptismal clothes and everything and was a good experience. A little girl of 8 years old was baptized. It looks like a great family that are strong in the church. I don´t know why but it´s just so nice to see good strong families in the church here. You don´t see them too often. In our ward I can think of about 4 or 5. The rest are all converts, part member or the other family members are inactive. So it´s nice to see the happiness that comes from a good faithful family in the church.
Alright well other than that all is good :). Just to let you know this week are changes. Both me and Elder Barrientos have two changes here and I heard that zone leaders are rarely left in any one sector for more than three changes. So there´s a good chance one of us won´t be here next week. I´d like to think it´s more probable that Elder Barrientos goes and I stay, lol, but that might be just because this ward is so amazing so we´ll see.
Thanks for everything, love you!!!!
Love,
Elder David Frome
