I´m glad it sounds like you had a good weekend and a nice funeral service for great-Grandpa Whiting. That is always neat to hear the story of someone´s life. It seems everyone has such a different story that makes them who they are. It´s great to hear and learn from the experiences of others. So must´ve been nice :). Though must´ve been kinda tough for two 12 hour drives in one weekend, lol. But it´s always worth it to be able to see family. Was it fun driving with Curtis and Sofia too? Oh it was fun I got about five letters from the Beehives of the Oak Creek Ward, lol. I imagined you must´ve had an activity and wrote all the missionaries. The only two I recognized were Haylie Crook and the Parish girl. But yeah made me smile :) Think they´d like a response to everyone in general?
But anyways, well I have to say I´m starting to feel like the boy who cried wolf. Just because yet again we had planned a baptism for 2 this weekend but it didn´t go through. But fortunately this time it wasn´t a lack of testimony nor failure in the commitments, but rather planning. They did get married Thursday morning (for the rest of the day went to the beach in Salinas to celebrate, which made me smile to think about the beach in Salinas, Libertad, where I was:). But when we came by on Wednesday they told us that they didn´t feel comfortable having the baptism so soon after the wedding only because they wanted to plan it better. They told us that before with the other missionaries that had many plans of how they wanted their baptism to be (you can imagine after a year of coming to church, they must´ve had plenty of time to think about how they want their baptism to be, lol). How they wanted to have it in the other building where they atended for a year with family and friends, etc. Thus only wanted to wait until the 10 of April. They said you only get baptized once in life, so they wanted to make it special. And yeah, we couldn´t disagree. It kinda hit me hard though, how often I think as missionaries we want the investigators to gain a testimony and progress to baptism as fast as we can. Often I think we don´t take the time to stop and step back and take a breath to just plan and make the baptism as nice a service as possible. The baptism really should be a spiritual highlight and thus we should put in a lot of time planning so that it turns out great. So yeah when Manuel and Patricia told us that, it made me realize how often we rush things. But yeah, to say the least the baptism is now for the 10 of April, lol.
Other than that everything is going good. I have to say I´m starting to like this sector more and more the more time I´m here. Last night we had Comité executivo and after we had ward council and they went really well. It´s so nice to have a supportive bishop and other great leaders. This ward is relatively small but the leadership is great. Hopefully that´ll help our investigators a lot.
Oh and before I forget I´d better answer your questions, lol. Haha the turtle was Manuel´s, lol he got a new pet turtle and a pet cat the he showed us. And here in Duran I´ve seen a few cochroaches but there are definitely not nearly as many as before, and really there aren´t even very many ants. The house here is way nice because it doesn´t have those problems, lol Ok well i´d better get going, thanks for everything! Love you!
Love,
Elder David Frome
